Planetary Dance Earrings
These beautiful, one-of-a-kind Planetary Dance Earrings were made in response to an open call for a book by Nicolas Estrada called 'New Earrings: 500+ Contemporary Jewellery Designs'.
The opportunity sounded like music to me, so in-keeping with my First Exploration theme, I chose the movement of the planets in our Solar System - sometimes referred to as 'planetary dance' - as the title for the earrings. With their movement and sparkle (see my Instagram post) they certainly live up to their name!
'New Earrings: 500+ Contemporary Jewellery Designs' was published across the world this autumn by Hoaki Books, and is available in English and Spanish - a beautiful gift in itself for all jewellery enthusiasts!
My First Exploration collection was originally inspired by a quotation from a book by Carl Sagan called 'Pale Blue Dot'. The book was named after an image of Earth taken by the Voyager 1 space probe from the edge of our Solar System before it crossed into interstellar space. The image of Earth 'as a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam' threw a spotlight onto our precious planet giving humanity a chance to see itself in a whole new light.
The earrings are handmade in recycled Sterling silver and eco-resin using techniques such as sawing, filing, forming, soldering and casting resin. Once the resin was cured, it was carefully sanded back and polished to a glossy finish. The little red stoppers on the ear wires are integral to the design and form a small counterweight to the earrings, ensuring they stay firmly in place. The stoppers slide on and off with a little gentle persuasion and a wiggle.
From the top of the ear wires, the earrings are about 6.5cm long.
The earrings will be shipped in a grey recycled-card gift box carefully packaged to ensure that they are not damaged in transit.
Ready to ship in 1-2 business days.
